IRS reports an increase in texting scams

There are thousands of fraudulent domains tied to multiple MMS/SMS text scams (also known as smishing) Smishing scams target cell phone users, the texts often look like they came from the IRS and offer things like COVID relief, tax credits and offers to help you set up an IRS online account. Do not be lured in by these fakes. They are trying to steal your private information. The IRS’s main form of communication is US mail. If you think you are the target of one of these scams report them to phishing@irs.gov. Remember any communication from the IRS ends in .gov.
