Shop around, ask questions. Many big chain preparation services charge huge fees for a simple tax return. It may start with a low fee, then you get another charge for another form ,credit, checklist or worksheet. The list can go on and on. In NYS all tax prep services are mandated to post all fees associated with their services. Why use rapid refund ? You are taking a loan on your own money, paying fees and interest. Why waste your hard earned dollars ? Most direct deposit refunds are issued in about 7-10 business days. Taxes with earned income credit, child tax credit and so forth are held usually until February due to the growing rate of tax fraud. I say this because I know a client that has been paying $359 for a basic tax return with a national chain. I find that outrageous !
